FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions we are asked most often.

General

Is the initial assessment free?+

Yes. The initial enquiry and assessment carry no charge. Any fees for further services are explained clearly before you decide to proceed.

Do you provide loans?+

No. CrediSure provides credit advisory, assistance and education services. We do not provide loans or loan funding.

Can you guarantee a result?+

No. Outcomes depend on your individual circumstances, creditor and bureau responses and applicable legal requirements. We will always give you an honest assessment.

What do I need for the first enquiry?+

Your name, South African ID number, contact details and a short description of your situation. We do not need bank statements or credit reports at this stage.

How is my information protected?+

We handle personal information confidentially and in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Debt Review Removal

Can my debt review be removed immediately?+

Not automatically. The route depends on your status, whether an order was granted and whether your debts have been paid. We assess this before recommending any step.

What is a clearance certificate?+

A clearance certificate (Form 19) is issued by a debt counsellor once all obligations under a debt restructuring order have been satisfied, with some exceptions such as long-term home loans.

Will my debts disappear once debt review is removed?+

No. Removing the debt review flag does not cancel the debt. You will continue to owe any outstanding balances, but you will deal with creditors directly.

Debt Prescription

Is every debt older than three years prescribed?+

No. The period may have been interrupted, or a longer period may apply. Each account needs to be investigated individually.

Should I make a small payment to stop collection calls?+

Be careful. A payment or acknowledgement may interrupt prescription. It is advisable to obtain guidance before paying or acknowledging an old debt.

Will a prescribed debt be removed from my credit report?+

Bureau treatment depends on the listing type and the applicable regulations. We assist with following up on any profile updates that may be appropriate.

Debt Mediation

How is debt mediation different from debt review?+

Debt review is a formal process under the National Credit Act with legal protection and a credit profile flag. Mediation is informal and voluntary, relying on creditor agreement.

Must creditors accept the proposal?+

No. Each creditor considers proposals on its own terms. We aim to present proposals that are realistic and well supported.

Credit Profile Rehabilitation

Can you remove negative information from my report?+

Only information that is inaccurate, outdated or no longer lawfully retained may be corrected or removed. Accurate information that is lawfully listed remains.

How long do disputes take?+

Bureaus generally have a set period to investigate disputes, but overall timelines depend on credit provider responses.

Judgment Removal

Does paying a judgment remove it automatically?+

Not necessarily. Settlement is often required, but an appropriate rescission or removal process usually still needs to follow.

What if I never knew about the case?+

There may be grounds to apply for rescission, depending on the facts. We investigate and explain the options.

Debt Settlement Assistance

How much discount can I expect?+

There is no fixed discount. Outcomes depend on the creditor, the age of the account and your proposal.

Will a settled account show on my credit report?+

Once settled, the account should be updated. We request paid-up letters and follow up with bureaus where appropriate.
